Reliable signs of drinking enough milk
-Production of feces and urine – milk must be absorbed if the baby urinates and has a bowel movement.
-After the second day of life, six or more diapers become wet in 24 hours with clear, dilute urine.
Note: If the baby receives water in addition to breast milk, urine production may be good, but weight gain may be low.
Normal infant growth patterns
•Infants can lose 7 to 10% of their birth weight in the first few days after birth, but should reach their birth weight again by the age of 2 or 3 weeks.
•If they start exclusively breastfeeding right after giving birth, they may lose very little or no weight.
•Babies generally gain 100 to 200 grams per week in the first 6 months and around 85 to 140 grams per week in the second half of the first year of life. In general, they double their weight by 6 months and triple their weight by the age of 1 year.
